The Friends of the International Center at the University of California, San Diego have awarded $25,000 in student scholarships for 1999-2000, according to International Center director Mary Dhooge.

Of the total, $14,000 in scholarships was awarded to UCSD undergraduates bound for study abroad and $11,000 to graduate students involved in international exchange and research.

The Friends of the International Center scholarship funds are derived primarily from income from the Friends’ Resale Shop located on the UCSD campus. In addition to raising approximately $20,000 annually through the Resale Shop sales of donated household goods and clothing, the Friends also sponsor ethnic dinners and other benefits throughout the year.

The Friends’ Resale shop is located at the UCSD International Center on Library Walk off Gilman Drive. Donations of a variety of resale items, including baby items and kitchen equipment, is appreciated. Twenty-four volunteers run the Resale Shop and new volunteers are welcome.

For additional information about donating time or resale items call (858) 534-1124 or 534-3630.
