UCSD Retirement Association Celebrates 20th Anniversary

By Suzan Cioffi | October 25, 2004

The UCSD Retirement Association is celebrating its 20th anniversary this month with a variety of special events and activities, including an open house on Wednesday, Oct. 27. The open house will be held at the Retirement Association offices in UC 400 (behind the Campus Cashier's Office) from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.

UCSD staff and faculty who are close to retirement and current members are invited to stop in to learn about the activities and programs of the association. Light refreshments will be served and "Peek at the Past" photo boards will be on display. No RSVP is necessary.

From entertaining and educational programming, to fellowship and volunteer opportunities, the UCSD Retirement Association provides a means for retirees to stay connected with UCSD. Founded with some 297 charter members in 1984, the association has grown to over 750 members today.

The association launched its celebration year with a 20th anniversary reception at the Cecil and Ida Green Faculty Club on Tuesday, Oct. 5. Fifteen past presidents, a host of charter members and David Miller, acting senior vice chancellor of Academic Affairs, gathered to celebrate this important milestone. Attendees enjoyed a 20th anniversary three-tier cake and other delights, and listened to Quelda Wilson, former assistant vice chancellor of Human Resources, as she shared stories about the "The dawn of the UCSD Retirement Association."
