The San Diego Supercomputer Center (SDSC) at the University of California, San Diego, has named SDSC Distinguished Scientist Chaitanya Baru the Center’s Associate Director, Data Initiatives.

The annual list recognizes the highest volunteer-producing colleges and universities for small, medium, large and graduate institutions. There are currently 70 undergraduate alumni from UC San Diego serving overseas in the Peace Corps.

Kiplinger’s Personal Finance magazine recently ranked the University of California, San Diego the 10th best value public university in the nation for the second consecutive year based on cost and financial aid, average student debt, competitiveness, graduation rates and academic support.
For the sixth consecutive year, the Training, Research and Education for Driving Safety (TREDS) program at the University of California, San Diego School of Medicine has been awarded a grant from the California Office of Traffic Safety to promote driving safety in older adults.

A $50,000 research prize to promote active health has been awarded to James Sallis, PhD, Distinguished Professor of Family and Preventive Medicine at the University of California, San Diego School of Medicine. Sallis is a noted academic who is on a mission to use research to promote health, fitness, and active lifestyles.
