UC San Diego Combats Hunger with College Food Drive

University of California, San Diego students, staff and faculty are doing their part to help prepare families in need for the holidays with the Tritons Rock Hunger food drive Oct. 5–28.  The drive is part of a countywide Colleges Rock Hunger contest, hosted by the Hard Rock Hotel San Diego. Food and dollars raised through the contest will make up the first official donation to the Jacobs & Cushman San Diego Food Bank’s 2012 Holiday Food Drive.

Beach Party and Volunteer50 Service Project Combine at ‘Meet the Beach’

Bright green towels covered the beach near Scripps Pier Saturday for Meet the Beach, the finale event to UC San Diego’s Welcome Week. Approximately 3,500 students turned out to enjoy surf lessons, beach games, music and giveaways—like the UC San Diego Recreation beach towels. Now in its fifth year, Meet the Beach is a widely popular campus tradition that gives new students a taste of the recreation activities available at UC San Diego.

Briana Bilbray is only 25, yet she is undergoing the fight of her life—against melanoma. In addition to waging a battle against the disease, Briana is also working to raise awareness of the risks of melanoma, particularly among young people.
