Wayne Cornelius, one of the foremost authorities on immigration trends in the nation, specializes in comparative studies of immigration and immigration policy, Mexican politics, and U.S.-Mexican relations and is one of the top experts in the country on Mexican immigration to the United States.

Cornelius is the author, co-author, or editor of more than 200 publications. He has researched and written on controlling immigration from a global perspective, the migration of highly skilled workers, transition in Mexican political systems, the transformation of rural Mexico, democratization in Mexico, and educational policies toward immigrant children in California.

Background
Cornelius founded the UCSD Center for U.S.-Mexican Studies in 1979. It is the largest program in the country devoted exclusively to the study of Mexico and U.S.-Mexican relations. Cornelius also founded the UCSD Center for Comparative Immigration Studies (1999). He has conducted field research in Mexico since 1962, in the U.S. since 1978, and in Japan and Spain since 1992. Cornelius holds a doctorate from Stanford University and has taught at a number of universities. At UCSD he teaches comparative politics and public policy analysis.
