Expertise/Areas Of Interest:
Stanley Chodorow specializes in medieval European history, legal and constitutional history, political theory, and the history of politics from 1050-1300. His area of research also includes church history and history of theology.
Topics Of Publications:
Chodorow has published several textbooks on European history and world history, as well as numerous articles on medieval law, European politics and institutions from the late eleventh century to the thirteenth century. He has also written books on the history of medieval canon law. Beyond history, Chodorow is active in national library organizations and has published articles on the future of scholarly publications and libraries.
Background:
Chodorow received his doctorate from Cornell University in 1968, and has since been at UCSD. In between, he has served in a number of administrative positions at UCSD, as well as Provost of the University of Pennsylvania from 1994-1994, and Chief Executive Officer of California Virtual University from 1998-1999. He has been teaching Making of the Modern World (a core curriculum combining history, literature, anthropology, and other disciplines) as well as history at UCSD.
