An Associate Professor in the department of history, Nancy Caciola specializes in medieval European history, women in European history, history of Christianity, family history, interdisciplinary methodologies in the study of history, and popular culture. Caciola teaches medieval European history (the period between 500 - 1500) with a focus on the later part of the period, specifically the cultural and religious history, the history of women, and history of popular culture.
Topics of Publication
In her book titled Discerning Spirits: Divine and Demonic Possession in the Middle Ages, Caciola explores the prehistory of the early modern European witch craze and discusses how medieval people determined whom to venerate as saints and whom to avoid as the demonically possessed.
