For many admitted students, Triton Day is the first opportunity to experience UC San Diego—our sprawling grounds and ocean views, dynamic campus community and expansive research and collaborative opportunities—all factors students will weigh when deciding upon which university to attend in the fall. We call upon all students, staff, faculty and alumni to join us in welcoming newly admitted freshmen by being an ambassador, tabling, performing and more.

More than 20,000 admitted freshmen and their families are expected to attend the 3rd annual Triton Day on Saturday, April 5, an event designed to inspire admitted freshmen to envision themselves as future Tritons and sign their Statement of Intent to Register (SIR). The annual admissions event will feature fun and educational activities, including live entertainment, social mixers and cultural celebrations as well as an information fair, but we need the campus community’s involvement to make a memorable first impression.

“This is an important opportunity to connect with future Tritons and their families and show them the possibilities that abound at UC San Diego,” said Alan Houston, interim vice chancellor for student affairs. “We need everyone’s help to ensure that our guests are welcomed, informed and engaged.”

Here are ways you can help

The theme for this year’s event is Tritons United, which characterizes the strength of our campus community when joined together in a collective endeavor. We seek your time and talents to help attract the next generation of innovators to UC San Diego. From leading hands-on research demonstrations to running information booths and participating in performances—there are a multitude of ways you can get involved.

  • Volunteer Opportunities

More than 150 volunteers are needed to help coordinate this year’s Triton Day. All volunteers will receive an event T-shirt, lunch, free parking and a special giveaway. Volunteers gain a behind-the-scenes look at how a campus-wide event is organized. For more information and to sign up, visit the Volunteer50 website.

  • Staff and Faculty

It is important that newly admitted students find the resources that they seek, especially during this crucial decision-making time in their academic career. We encourage all campus departments to sign up for a table as well as open your laboratory, studio or other space for tours. To maximize engagement, it is recommended that participants include interactive displays, prominent visuals and hands-on demonstrations.

Registration is now open through March 5. For more information and to register, visit the Triton Day registration page.

  • Students

Are you a dancer? Does your student organization feature the best barbecue on campus? Would you like to gain a behind-the-scenes look at the coordination of a large campus-wide event? Registration is now open for performers, tabling for student organizations as well as other volunteer opportunities for Triton Day set-up and coordination.

Registration is now open through March 5. For more information and to register, visit the Triton Day registration page.

  • Alumni

As UC San Diego alumni, you have valuable insight to share with admitted students—from the best place to eat on campus to the quality of our academic programs and employment prospects in your field. We invite you to connect with incoming freshmen and enlighten them with the boundless opportunities that exist at UC San Diego.

To register, visit the UC San Diego Alumni Triton Day website.

  • The entire campus and local community are invited to join in the 36th Annual Marshall College Cultural Celebration, an event that is hosted concurrently with Triton Day. This free student-run cultural festival will celebrate diversity and cultures from around the world with live entertainment from student organizations, traditional foods, a henna workshop, arts and crafts and more. Learn more at the 36th Annual Marshall College Cultural Celebration page.

We encourage all faculty, staff, students and alumni to get involved in making this year’s Triton Day a success. We call each of you to help showcase our strengths as a student-centered, research-focused, service-oriented university and leave a memorable first impression on incoming freshmen.
