UC San Diego was recently highly ranked for its academic excellence by both U.S. News & World Report and the Times Higher Education. The 2013 edition of America’s Best Graduate Schools by U.S. News and World Report named UC San Diego’s graduate programs among the best in the country. The university also was ranked 36th in the World Reputation Rankings by the London-based Times Higher Education.

UC San Diego’s Jacobs School of Engineering was named 14th best out of 198 engineering schools in the new ranking by U.S. News, and the biomedical/bioengineering program within the engineering school was ranked 4th in the nation. The university’s School of Medicine was ranked 16th in research-intensive programs among 126 medical schools and its AIDS program was ranked 8th among the school’s specialty programs.

Also, in a new U.S. News web-exclusive ranking, UC San Diego’s graduate program in Fine Arts is named the 13th best in the nation and the multimedia and visual communications specialty is ranked 7th.

“It’s an honor to have the stellar academic quality of our graduate programs recognized each year by U.S. News,” said Kim Barrett, dean of graduate studies at UC San Diego. “Our world-class faculty continue to generate cutting-edge research and innovative programs that help create today’s scholars and tomorrow’s leaders.”

Additionally, US San Diego was ranked 36th in the World Reputation Rankings by Times Higher Education. The Reputation Rankings complement the annual World University Rankings, published in fall 2011, in which UC San Diego was ranked 33rd.

“This global ranking is a reflection of UC San Diego’s commitment to excellence in research, education and service, and our location and proximity to institutional partners on the La Jolla Mesa make UC San Diego an optimal environment to engage in research and scholarship,” said Suresh Subramani, executive vice chancellor for Academic Affairs.
