‘Versed’ by Rae Armantrout: California Poet, National Recognition
The New York Times, April 12 -- Rae Armantrout has won the 2010 Pulitzer Prize for poetry for “Versed,” her 10th collection. Armantrout teaches at UC San Diego and has had a “West Coast cult following” for over 30 years, Stephen Burt wrote in the Book Review in 2007, reviewing her previous collection, “Next Life.” More

A Remedy for Troubled Doctors
The Wall Street Journal, April 13 -- The primary mission of Physician Assessment and Clinical Education Program, or PACE, at UC San Diego, is to evaluate the competence of troubled doctors whose infractions range from serious medical error and negligence to sloppy record keeping and anger management. Using a mix of computer-based simulations, multiple-choice exams, cognitive-function screenings and hands-on observation, PACE faculty and staff tests doctors' knowledge, skills and judgment, providing remedial courses and a weeklong mini-residency supervised by UCSD medical faculty.
