Protein May Help Control Weight
BusinessWeek, April 15 -- Even on a high-fat diet, mice that lack a protein involved in the response to low levels of oxygen stay lean and healthy, says a new study. The protein, called FIH, could offer a new target for drugs to help control weight, according to UC San Diego researchers. More

Health Checkup: Women and Health
TIME Magazine, April 15 -- Women make the primary health care decisions in two-thirds of American households. They account for 80 cents out of every dollar spent in drugstores and are likelier than men to choose the family's health insurance. "Women are the main brokers of health care in the United States," says Dr. William Norcross, a family physician and faculty member at the UC San Diego School of Medicine. University of California System Assembles First Waiting Lists
The New York Times, April 15 -- The University of California system, which said in the midst of fiscal belt-tightening in January that it planned to compile its first waiting lists, announced on Wednesday that it had placed more than 10,000 applicants on at least one such list.
