American Scientist Wins Geoscience Prize

, Jan. 21 -- Sweden's Royal Academy of Sciences has awarded American scientist Walter Munk the 2010 Crafoord Prize in Geosciences for his research on ocean circulation. The 92-year-old will receive the 4 million kronor ($560,000) prize at a ceremony in Stockholm on May 11 in the presence of Sweden's King Carl XVI Gustaf. Munk was born in Austria but moved to the U.S. in 1932. He became professor of Geophysics at UCSD in 1954. More
