CNN International
, July 8  - More than 16,000 U.S. medical school graduates are awarded M.D. degrees each year, and many enter their residency programs at teaching hospitals in July. San Diego Union-Tribune

Given her background (punk-rock performer, neon sculptor, literary provocateur) and inspirations (Buddhism, comic books, graffiti poets, the late feminist novelist Kathy Acker), dullness is not an option. Recent Earthquakes
San Diego 6
, July 7 -- Two more small earthquakes ruptured off the La Jolla coast on Monday. That makes for 19 small quakes to rupture since Labor Day, all within 8 miles of La Jolla's coast. Seismologists at Scripps Institution of Oceanography at UC San Diego say it's unusual but not surprising. They say it appears a rupture last Tuesday was the main quake. The rest we're seeing now are aftershocks. "For a magnitude-4.0 earthquake, we expect to see in a week or two, magnitude-3 earthquakes, 2.5 etc., within that same region and that's what we're seeing," said Dr. Debi Kilb. More

Brilliant Lead Performance Makes 'George' a Thrill Ride
North County Times
, July 7  -- When the original actor hired for the title role in the Old Globe's "The Madness of George III" dropped out two days before rehearsals began last spring, director Adrian Noble feared he might have to scrap the production. But he needn't have worried. It's hard to imagine any actor anywhere besting Miles Anderson's astonishing performance as the king brought low in Alan Bennett's smart and entertaining play.
