UCSD Proposes Another La Jolla Hospital

Irwin and Joan Jacobs have donated $75 million toward a new $664 million Jacobs Medical Center at UC San Diego, which will house a new 245-bed medical tower as well as a cancer-care hospital, advanced surgery unit and maternity and infant care. San Diego Hospitals Prepare for Disaster
KPBS, May 17 — San Diego hospitals will take part in a statewide disaster exercise called operation Golden Guardian. The disaster drill takes place every year, and this year the scenario is a terrorist attack with a highly radioactive bomb, called a dirty bomb. At UC San Diego Hospital in Hillcrest, dozens of people will pose as victims who need treatment. Therese Rymer, the hospital's director of emergency preparedness, said in a disaster, a code sets the hospital in motion. More
