A Cherished
R2-D2 Statue is Replaced
San Diego Union-Tribune, April 13-The
robotics team at UCSD's Preuss School, after
winning an "engineering inspiration" award in regional
competition, heads tomorrow to the national championships in
Atlanta, with a 3-foot-by-2-foot-by-5-foot aluminum-jointed
creation called M3, (short for Midnight Mechanics, third year).
The charter school serves low-income, first-generation college-bound
students. Robot club members fine-tuned M3 through consultation
with engineers from SpaWars and the S.D. Supercomputer
Center.

A Study That Barks
Los
Angeles Times, Opinion, April 13-A Los Angeles
Times reader expresses his concerns over the recent article
"Yes, You Might Really Look Like a Dog, Study Says,"
April 4. "With the state being in the financial crisis
that it is, how in the world can UC San Diego
afford to fund a study that concludes people often keep dogs
that resemble themselves?" said Alan McCall of Garden Grove.
