Students Targeted in Piracy Lawsuits
Los Angeles Times, April 13-Leaders of the Recording Industry Association of America and the Motion Picture Association of America said Tuesday that they expected to file hundreds of lawsuits today against students across the country who use a super-fast version of the Internet that connects more than 300 universities and other institutions. Among those facing copyright infringement lawsuits are 25 people at USC and an unspecified number at UCSD and UC Berkeley. More

Students Face Suits Over Use of 'Internet2'
San Diego Union-Tribune, April 13-The super-fast "Internet2" network that connects universities researching the next-generation Internet is also apparently popular among college students who download pirated music and movies. Twenty-five of the students targeted attend UCSD, said the Recording Industry Association of America, the trade group for the largest music labels. UCSD said in a statement yesterday that it had been notified by the Recording Industry Association of an imminent subpoena relating to the students who are accused of illegally sharing files and that it would comply with the subpoena.
