Ridge: Mexico's
war stance won't draw sanctions
San Diego Union-Tribune, Apr. 25 –
The Bush administration is still "deeply disappointed"
in Mexico for its opposition to the war in Iraq, but the "family"
rift will not result in long-term damage or sanctions, Homeland
Security Secretary Tom Ridge said yesterday. After a tour of
the San Ysidro and Otay Mesa border crossings with his Mexican
counterpart, Interior Secretary Santiago Creel, Ridge signaled
for reconciliation, saying the countries must collaborate on
matters of border security, illegal immigration and even rebuilding
Iraq. (Quotes Chuck Nathanson, executive director
of San Diego Dialogue, a regional public policy program at University
of California, San Diego).
