Fusion Might End Need for
Embryo Cells
The Baltimore Sun, Aug. 23 -- A Harvard
scientist who led experiments that transformed skin cells into
stem cells said yesterday that the technique could lead to ways
to dispense altogether with the use of human embryos - but it
could take a decade to accomplish. When embryonic stem cells
were fused with adult skin cells, the stem cells, in effect,
taught the more mature cells to act just like them. (Cites Dr.
Judith Swain, dean of translational medicine
at UC San Diego and a stem-cell expert). More
The Evolving
Clash of Darwinists and Doubters
International Herald Tribune, 23 August
2005
Debate over intelligent design is this question: Can a scientific
explanation of the history of life include the actions of an
unseen higher being? The proponents of intelligent design, a
school of thought that some have argued should be taught alongside
evolution, say that the complexity and diversity of life go
beyond what evolution can explain. Early vertebrates like jawless
fish are thought to have had a simple clotting system involving
a few proteins that made blood stick together, said Russell
Doolittle, a professor of molecular biology at the
University of California at San Diego. More

Some 93 million Americans, 80 percent of adults using computers,
go online each year to learn about health and medicine, according
to a 2003 study by the Pew Internet and American Life project.
And 38 percent of older adults find it very or somewhat difficult
to judge whether what they find there is reliable, according
to the Merck Institute of Aging and Health. (Quotes UCSD

Joe Scherger, family and preventative medicine
at UCSD). More
