Dean is Named to UCSD Arts Division
San Diego Union-Tribune, Aug. 27 -- Michael A. Bernstein, an economist and historian, has been named the University of California San Diego's dean of arts and humanities. Bernstein, 50, who has taught on campus for 17 years, will serve as one of 11 deans on the La Jolla campus. He will oversee academic, personnel and budgetary decisions for history, literature, philosophy, music, visual arts, and theater and dance. More

Eye disease leads to lifestyle changes
San Diego Union-Tribune, Aug. 28 -- With a pocketful of dog treats and grasping her white cane, Coronado resident Flo Feerick takes a two-mile walk each day along the bay even though she can't see the ships or the happy dog faces. She just knows they're there. Feerick participated in a group research program through the UCSD Shiley Eye Center with others who also had advanced macular degeneration. The program helped improve her quality of life and made her not feel so alone. More
