More Vitamin D Could Cut Cancer by 600,000
UPI, Aug. 22 -- Cedric F. Garland, a cancer prevention specialist at the Moores Cancer Center at UCSD and colleagues estimate that 250,000 cases of colorectal cancer and 350,000 cases of breast cancer could be prevented worldwide by increasing intake of vitamin D -- particularly in countries north of the equator. San Diego Union-Tribune, Aug. 22 -- Buoys carry sensors that measure wind speed and direction, air pressure and sea temperatures and provide a rare glimpse of ocean conditions as a hurricane approaches. Peter Niiler, a professor and researcher at the Scripps Institution of Oceanography at UCSD, said the devices provide details about the sea's interplay with the storms that has been missing from hurricane studies.
