Impotence Linked to Heart Disease
CBS News, Dec. 21 -- A large study of men age 55 and older adds to evidence that impotence can be a warning sign for heart disease. Men with erectile dysfunction were more likely than other men to experience chest pain, a heart attack or a stroke during the next seven years, the study found. (Quote by UCSD's Dr. Elizabeth Barrett-Connor, who was not involved in the study) More

That's when even Bonilla's most imperious customers hand over envelopes stuffed with cash. Korean Scandal Will Have Global Fallout
Nature, UK, Dec. 20 -- In one of the biggest scientific scandals of recent times, South Korea's star cloner Woo Suk Hwang last week asked to retract his landmark paper on the creation of embryonic stem cells from adult human tissue. The request, along with new doubts about his earlier work, confirms what researchers in the field were already starting to realize - that the advance marked by Hwang's research, with all it promised for therapeutic cloning, may amount to nothing. (Quote by Theodore Friedmann, a gene-therapy researcher at UCSD, who has chaired the US Recombinant DNA Advisory Committee) More

Researchers at UCSD's Moores Cancer Center say taking 1,000 international units of vitamin D can cut your risk of colon cancer in half. More

Ped Med: Dealing With Holiday Stress
UPI
, Dec. 21 -- Parents may need a "time out" to prevent stress from becoming a holiday tradition alongside parties, family get-togethers and presents under the tree, specialists advise. (Quote by Dr. Daniel Sewell of the UCSD Medical Center) More

What Is Stealing our Thunder, Rain?
San Diego Union-Tribune, Dec. 21 -- If this isn't shaping up as a La Niña winter, it's sure doing a darn good imitation. Until last weekend, all of the state was drier than normal, with the exception of Eureka in the far north, and the East has been getting pounded by storms. (Quote by Dan Cayan, director of the Climate Research Division of the Scripps Institution of Oceanography)
