Stem Cell Procedure May Help Ease Lupus
Los Angeles Times, Jan. 31-Transplants of stem cells harvested from bone marrow have provided the first successful treatment for lupus patients who have not responded to other therapies, Chicago researchers reported Tuesday. Anthrax Acts Same in Humans, Fruit Flies
UPI, Jan. 31-UCSD scientists say toxins that allow anthrax to cause disease and death in mammals have similar effects in fruit flies. The discovery means fruit flies can be used to study the link between the biochemical activities and physiological effects of anthrax toxins. More

King Remembered As a Strong Leader
San Diego Union-Tribune, Feb. 1- Coretta Scott King, the widow of the Rev. Martin Luther King Jr. died early yesterday at Hospital Santa Monica. Yesterday, leaders in the local black community remembered King as a portrait of elegance and strength. She carried on her husband's fight, they said, becoming an icon in the civil rights movement.
