COSMOS Expands
for High Schoolers
Sacramento Bee, Feb. 23-California's
summer school for high school students interested in math and
science is expanding to a fourth campus, even as its state funding
shrinks. Officials who run COSMOS -- a loose acronym for the
California State Summer School for Mathematics and Science --
credit private contributions with enabling them to set up a
program at UCSD this summer. More

a Girl to Engineering
Day" is a Little More Festive this Year

Feb. 23- Thursday is "Introduce a Girl to Engineering Day,"
also known this year as "Beat up on Harvard University
President Lawrence Summers Day," due to the recent comments
Summers made about women in science. The comments were heavily
criticized by prominent leaders in science from around the world,
including UCSD professor Sally Ride.
