applications to NASA, hoping to embark upon what President Bush
has quaintly referred to as “travel by rocket.”

Controversy
weighs heavy on ephedra
San Diego Union Tribune, Feb. 9 --
Companies whose products include ephedra, a herbal stimulate,
state that clinical studies have proven the safety of their
products. However, Dr. Daniel Masys, director
of the Human Research Protections program at UCSD,
said some of the research and analysis practices appeared to
be "seriously flawed." The final reports from the
National Institutes of Health and the FDA could decide the fates
of companies such as Metabolife International in San Diego
