Senior Credits Parents for Success

, Feb. 19 — The parents of Coronado High senior Peter Kittiyasawadi are immigrants to this country. His father, Rachen, came from Thailand in 1979. His mother, Leticia, arrived from Mexico in 1988. Peter says their hard work and sacrifice have allowed him to excel as a student and athlete. Peter carries a 4.24 grade-point average at Coronado and plays saxophone in the school band. On the soccer field, he is the Islanders team captain. He plans to attend UCSD this fall. More

, Feb 19 -- Seth Lerer was born in Brooklyn, N.Y., in 1955 and grew up there and in suburban Boston and Pittsburgh. He was educated at Wesleyan University, Oxford and the University of Chicago, and he taught English and comparative literature at Princeton and Stanford before joining the UCSD faculty as dean of arts and humanities last month. More
