Voting and the Violence in Kenya

, Jan. 15 -- Much of the coverage from Kenya portrays recent voting and subsequent violence as motivated by deep-seated tribal animosity between the country's ethnic groups. This approach largely ignores the complexities of the current political crisis and fails to provide a viable way forward. The voting and fighting are more a repudiation of an entrenched political coalition that has lead the country since before the advent of multiparty democracy. Treasury's McCormick Says China's Growth Harming Environment

International Stem Cell Corp. Joins Eye Surgery Trial

, Jan. 14 -- Shares of International Stem Cell Corp. rose nearly 19 percent Monday after the company said it will supply corneal cells for human trials in an effort to improve vision correction surgery. Dr. Paul H. Chen is conducting the trial with the UCSD Shiley Eye Center, the Burnham Institute in La Jolla, the University of Michigan and other centers. More
