New Leg Vein Treatments Effective

researchers said they have developed effective new, non-invasive
treatments for varicose and spider veins. Researchers at the
University of California, San Diego, injected
glycerin solution into spider veins and found it treated them
better and with fewer side effects than the standard sclerosing
solution, which turns blood vessels into scar tissue that become
absorbed.

Balloon Back Surgery
NBC Channel7/39, San Diego, July 29-A
new back surgery called kyphoplasty uses a device as simple
as a balloon to mend spinal fractures. During the procedure,
a surgeon inserts a small tube into the fracture in the spine.
The tube expands into a balloon, creating a space in the fracture
that lets a surgeon insert bone cement, patching up the fracture.
"It stabilizes the bone so it doesn't wiggle," said
Choll Kim, a doctor at UCSD
Medical Center, one of the first hospitals in the country to
perform the operation. "It gives it a lasting effect."
