In a Warming World, Cloudy Days Are a Boon
TIME Magazine, July 24 -- One of the biggest questions in climate sensitivity has been the role of low-level cloud cover. A new study published in the July 24 issue of Science is clearing the haze. A group of researchers from the University of Miami and the Scripps Institution of Oceanography studied cloud data of the northeast Pacific Ocean — both from satellites and from the human eye — over the past 50 years and combined that with climate models. Water Board Grant Will
Help UCSD Protect Coast
San Diego Union-Tribune, July 23 -- The State Water Board has announced $42.6 million in grants and low-interest loans for 15 projects designed to safeguard public health and the environment, including one in San Diego County. Some of the money will be used for several pollution-control projects, such as diverting dry-weather flows from storm drains at UCSD so they don't contaminate coastal waters. More
UCSD Receives Grant for Science Festival

Roddenberry Team Goes Diving at LJ Shores
La Jolla Light, July 23 -- The Comic-Con - or at least a piece of it - made its way to La Jolla Shores Thursday as part of the four-day attraction's festivities. The Roddenberry Dive Team, founded by Eugene "Rod" Roddenberry, son of "Star Trek" creator Gene Roddenberry, held a sunrise get-together July 23 at Shores beach along with grad students from the Scripps Institution of Oceanography.
