Study: Toenail Nicotine Points to Women's Heart Disease Risk
FOX News, June 6 -- A new study finds that measuring the nicotine content in toenail clippings can help predict a woman's risk for heart disease. Researchers from UCSD analyzed the clippings of toenails from more than 62,500 women. More

Sunlight, Vitamin D May Cut Kids' Diabetes Risk
Forbes, June 5 -- Adequate sun exposure and vitamin D levels may play an important role in helping to prevent type 1 diabetes in children, a new study suggests. Researchers at UCSD analyzed type 1 diabetes incidence rates and found that populations living at or near the equator -- where there is abundant sunshine -- have lower rates of the disease than populations at higher latitudes, where there is less sunlight. First-of-Its-Kind Farmers Market to Open
NBC San Diego, June 5 -- A new farmers market will open this weekend and it will be the first of its kind in San Diego County, NBC 7/39 reported. In addition to selling locally grown crops, the market will accept food stamps to purchase fruits and vegetables from local farmers. According to UCSD's Network for a Healthy California, more than 25,000 City Heights residents are eligible for food stamps. More
