UCSD Heavyweight, Former Del Mar Councilman Dies at 82
North County Times, March 10-John Silber, a father of eight who combined careers in modern music and community service, died Monday at 82. A trombonist who explored distant reaches of experimental music, Silber was chairman of UC San Diego's budding music department in the early 1970s. He retired in 1991.
