storm waves higher than thought

World, Mar. 3 – A Scripps Institution
of Oceanography study shows there's been a progressive
increase in the frequency and intensity of North Pacific storms
since 1948, according to a state Department of Geology and Mineral
Industries expert. The three factors that generate and govern
the size of waves, he said, are wind strength, duration of the
wind and the distance the wind travels.

U.S., French
scientists seek to share view of Earth
San Diego Union-Tribune, Mar. 2 –
American and French scientists gathered last week to plan for
the next generation of satellites designed to illuminate the
Earth's biggest environmental mysteries. The Scripps
Institution of Oceanography organized the meeting along
with the French National Space Center and the Mission for Science
and Technology of France. Scripps has advanced
oceanographic science through satellites already in orbit. (Quotes
