Obituary: Robert Winslow;
Doctor Was Blood-Substitute Pioneer
San Diego Union-Tribune, March 5 — Dr. Robert Winslow had become an expert in blood substitutes and high altitude physiology. He conducted field research in Peru, Chile and Nepal to study people at the extremes of the earth's oxygen atmosphere and was part of a 1981 American Medical Research Expedition to Mount Everest. A scientist and professor at UCSD, Dr. Winslow dedicated his career to blood research and developing oxygen carriers as alternatives to red blood cell transfusions. More
Birthday Greetings
San Diego Union-Tribune, March 5 — On Monday, Google transformed its page topper into whimsical Dr. Seuss characters in honor of the La Jolla author's 105th birthday. Meanwhile, at UCSD’s main campus library, the writer's widow, Audrey Geisel, helped distribute 2,000 slices of birthday cake. Ted Geisel died in 1991. The facility is now named Geisel Library in his honor and houses a premier collection of Dr. Seuss art and memorabilia. More
