But Coach, I Practiced in the Living Room
The New York Times
, March 15 -- Released in November, the $249.99 Wii console — which comes with golf, boxing, tennis and baseball games as well as bowling — wasn’t designed to give gamers a leg up in the real world. Nevertheless, dedicated users say having skill at the sport in question not only helps them win onscreen, but that practicing their golf swing or left hook in the Wii universe also improves real-life technique. (Quotes Soren Solari, a graduate student at UCSD) More

Medi-Cal Booster Shot
San Diego Union-Tribune
, March 15 – Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger's ambitious plan to extend health care insurance coverage to all Californians received a $3.5 billion shot in the arm yesterday when the nation's top health care regulator promised to help cover the cost of paying higher fees to doctors and hospitals that care for Medi-Cal patients. Earlier yesterday, the governor saw a number of demonstrations of technologies that help doctors and hospitals remotely monitor the condition of patients, including a mobile system that allows stroke specialists at UCSD to consult with doctors at other hospitals on emergency stroke cases. Thin Aquariums a Tight Fit for Fish
Los Angeles Times

These aquariums make amusing, if not striking, additions to a room, but are they safe for the fish? More Than a Feeling
San Diego Union-Tribune
, March 15 – Researchers are increasingly teasing out evidence that our five basic senses add up to a whole lot more than most of us realize or appreciate. Indeed, by combining and exploiting our basic senses in novel and unexpected ways, humans perceive far more than they can simply see, taste, touch, smell or hear, scientists say. (Quotes Vilyanur S. Ramachandran, director of the Center for Brain and Cognition at UCSD) More
