USCD committee
urges no SARS limits
San Diego Union-Tribune, May 8 –
A University of California, San Diego committee
recommended a "wait-and-see" approach toward students
from SARS-affected regions planning to attend summer classes.
For now, at least, there is no change in the status of those
enrolled in summer programs, Steve Benedict,
UCSD's director of Environment, Health and
Safety, said yesterday. He also mentioned that UC Berkeley had
to make a quicker decision, because its summer program begins
later this month, whereas San Diego's courses begin in late
June.

Yo-Yo Poses
Serious Danger To Children
SanDiegoChannel.com, May 6 –
Manufacturers of a seemingly harmless toy may be exporting trouble
to children in the United States in the form of the Yo-Yo Water
ball. The mushy, water filled balls are made from petroleum
products and light up like a torch when they come in contact
with an open flame. Director Dr. Richard Clark
of the California Poison Control Center at the University
of California, San Diego conducted a water ball burn
and found the water inside did nothing to slow the flames. Dr.
Clark said the diesel in the ball itself can
also be toxic. He urges parents to keep the water ball out of
the hands of young children.
