UCSD Drops Plan to Move
Center's Acute-care Beds

, May 10 -- UCSD officials now say they won't move all acute-care beds from their Hillcrest campus to Thornton Hospital in La Jolla. University officials said they're committed to operating two hospitals for the long run. Because UCSD's aging hospital and trauma center in Hillcrest must be replaced by 2030 to satisfy state seismic requirements, the university's leaders could rebuild those facilities next to the current site or pick a spot south of Interstate 8. More
