UCSD Receives
$30 Million Donation
ABC Channel 10, San Diego, Nov. 4-The
University of California, San Diego announced
Thursday that it received a $30 million gift from The Skaggs
Institute for Research to support the university's fledgling
School of Pharmacy and Pharmaceutical Sciences. The donation,
one of the largest in UCSD history, will be
paid out over the next five years to help support research efforts
and to recruit pharmaceutical scientists and pharmacy practitioners.

Schanberger; Doctor was Devoted to Care of Abused Kids
San Diego Union-Tribune, Nov. 2-If
parenthood counts for anything in pediatrics, Dr. John E. Schanberger's
credentials were hard to beat. Schanberger, who retired from
UCSD in 1996 after being diagnosed with Parkinson's
disease, died Friday at UCSD Medical Center.
