A Racing 'Holiday Heart' Can Spook You Out
Reuters, Nov. 24-There are many holiday traditions that are not so good for the heart, but here's one that may cause a real scare: festive binge drinking can temporarily speed up your heart rate, causing a condition known as "holiday heart," according to Ajit Raisinghani, an assistant professor of medicine at UCSD.

Shiley Gift Supports UCSD Research
San Diego Daily Transcript, Nov. 23-The University of California, San Diego received a $4 million pledge from Donald and Darlene Shiley that supports the university's Alzheimer's Disease Research Center (ADRC). The announcement was made Tuesday in conjunction with National Alzheimer's Disease Awareness Month.

San Francisco Chronicle, Nov. 23-You shortchange California by failing to mention in your editorial "Cal's other top ranking" (Nov. 22) that the UC system has four campuses in the top 26 universities worldwide. Besides Berkeley (2), they are UCSF (20), UC San Diego (24) and UCLA (26).
