Island Data is one of several companies in San Diego using sophisticated algorithms to analyze data to make better business decisions – a field known as analytics. With gusts hitting 82 mph, firefighters could do little to halt the ensuing inferno that killed eight people and almost burned to San Diego's southeastern boundary.
