Mexico Hoping to Drive Down HIV/AIDS with Prevention Program
KPBS, Oct 16 -- In 2004, UCSD's Division of International Health launched a research project in Tijuana. The aim was to find out the extent of HIV in the area, and to help prevent people at high risk from becoming infected. That program has inspired an HIV prevention effort that's rolling out all across Mexico. More
Give Peace a Chance
San Diego Union-Tribune, Oct. 16 -- Across town at UCSD, 2006 Nobel Peace Prize winner Muhammad Yunus will lecture at 2 p.m. Sunday. The Bangladeshi economist founded Grameen Bank, which pioneered the giving of small, collateral-free loans that have lifted millions of Third World women and their families out of poverty. His speech will be Web cast live and broadcast several times on UCSD-TV beginning at 8 p.m. Nov. 12. More
League of Women Voters to Meet
North County Times, Oct. 16 -- The League of Women Voters, North Coast San Diego County, will sponsor a general meeting on the subject of immigration, "An Overview of Immigration: Why Now & What is Possible?"
