Calls for a 'College Village'

UCSD committee released a report this week
examining student experiences while attending the University.
The recommendations were focused on principles in three broad
areas: building a sense of community on campus, improving the
intellectual and social connection between faculty and students,
and creating a stronger identity for the school by increasing
publicity of its accomplishments. The report has been highly
anticipated because the topic is one of the top priorities identified
by the chancellor. More

Expedition Offers
Both Discouraging, Hopeful Findings

working title of a recent Scripps Institution of Oceanography-led
expedition to a series of central Pacific islands. From the
Line Islands Expedition, which wrapped up Sept. 6, will come
soon a National Geographic write-up, a possible documentary
