, July 2008 -- During the past decade, the U.S. National Institutes of Health nearly doubled its annual HIV/AIDS research budget to $2.9 billion. UCSD was the 10th-best funded institution. The university also is ranked the ninth highest impact institution. Also, UCSD researcher Douglas Richman is ranked the HIV/AIDS author with the second-highest impact and UCSD researcher Connie Benson was one of the top 10 NIH-funded HIV/AIDS investigators for the 2007 fiscal year.
