Factory Direct
San Diego Union-Tribune, Sept. 3 – Mike Judge may be the only Hollywood filmmaker who ever directed a comedy — the new factory spoof “Extract” — while being forced to wear a hairnet over his balding pate. But then Judge, the UCSD physics grad who created such animated hits as “Beavis and Butt-Head” (whom he also heh, heh, heh, voiced) and “King of the Hill,” has scads of screwy claims to fame. Like this: As a professional musician, he once played in Shamu's Blues Band at SeaWorld. More

10News, Sept. 2 -- In an exclusive 10News poll, San Diegans were split on whether they plan to get the swine flu vaccine: 49 percent said they would get it, while 42 percent said they would not. Wong Fu Productions, a San Gabriel-based group (Wesley Chan, Ted Fu and Philip Wang) that formed in 2003 when Chan, Fu and Wang were in school at UCSD. More
Strange Brew, Rachel Getting
Married, Merce Cunningham's Split Sides
San Diego Reader, Sept. 2 -- I recommend Strange Brew. Disclaimer: This movie does not accurately depict the brewing process...just a warning to all those home brewers out there! On to the movie, eh? Any movie that starts out with the MGM lion burping instead of growling deserves an honorable mention. (Includes author Michael Trigilio media artist and UCSD Visual Arts faculty) More
