In Pictures: America's Most Expensive Waterfront Cities
Forbes.com
, Sept 10 -- Number 1. La Jolla, Calif. Median price: $1.85 million. Quite simply, La Jolla offers homeowners one of the more beautiful views in the U.S. The high bluffs protect some beaches, while in other areas it's easy to find surfers. Torrey Pines, the site of last year's U.S. Open, is just up the road, as is UCSD. Forests, beaches, small shopping areas and great restaurants make this town the most expensive place on our list. Youth Kick it at Political Conventions
San Francisco Chronicle
, Sept. 10 -- What's the new what? I'm starting to think political conventions are the new nightclubs. And those unsightly metal detectors outside the Xcel Energy Center in St. Paul were like the velvet ropes that keep the riffraff outside the hippest spots in town. I know teens who'd rather blog about Republican VP nominee Sarah Palin than kick it at the club. Like 17-year-old political junkie Kelly Chau, who felt like she had been invited to P-Diddy's exclusive annual bash, when she was sent to St. Paul to cover the Republican National Convention. "I was just really excited, because this is like a once-in-a-lifetime thing ... you get to witness history in the making." (Written by Ankitha Bharadwaj, a freshmen at UCSD) More

Smokers Near Old Town Station
Will be Asked to Put Out Cigarettes or Move
San Diego Union-Tribune
, Sept. 10 -- The problem: Smoking was banned at the Old Town Transit Center in July, so people light up on the sidewalk in front of the station. The sidewalk on Congress Street is where employees wait for shuttles bound for the UCSD Medical Center and the University of San Diego. Katie McLaughlin said she and others are tired of the smoke and would like the Metropolitan Transit System to enforce its ordinance prohibiting smoking within 25 feet of its facilities. More
