Robert Katzman, Alzheimer’s Activist, Dies at 82
The New York Times, Sept. 23 -- Dr. Robert Katzman, the neurologist, researcher and medical activist who redefined Alzheimer’s disease as a major public health problem and as the most frequent progressive form of dementia in aging, died Sept. 16 at his home in San Diego. He was 82. He joined the research faculty at UCSD in 1984 and later founded and led is now known as the Shiley-Marcus Alzheimer’s Disease Research Center. More
Ralph Nader, Cranky and California-Bound

Navy Hospital Ship Mercy Set to Return Tomorrow
San Diego Union-Tribune, Sept. 24 -- The hospital ship Mercy will return to San Diego about 9 a.m. tomorrow after completing its third extended humanitarian mission to the western Pacific Ocean in four years, Navy officials announced Monday. The medical personnel came from 15 Pacific Rim nations, as well as the Aloha Medical Mission, Project Hope, Operation Smile and UCSD’s Pre-Dental Society. More

San Diego Business Journal, Sept. 23 -- UCSD has signed a 10-year lease for research space valued at more than $19 million in Torrey Pines, according to a Grubb & Ellis|BRE Commercial announcement Sept. 23. UCSD Receives Sixth Ranking in NSF
