Drug-resistant HIV emerging
United Press International, August 8 – A five-year study led by UCSD researchers Susan Little and Douglas Richman has found that 1 in 5 people who become newly infected with HIV are increasingly acquiring strains of the virus that resist drugs.

Researchers measure Antarctic ice shelf tides from space for the first time
Sciencedaily.com, Aug. 2 – Scripps Institution of Oceanography researchers and Earth and Space Research of Seattle have measured Antarctic ice shelf tides from space for the first time. Through their research, the effect of tides can be removed more accurately and thus climate-related changes can be tracked more closely. Scripps scientist Helen Amanda Fricker collaborated on the study published in a recent issue of Geophysical Research Letters.
