Scripps Researcher Gets NASA Grant
San Diego Union-Tribune, Jan. 12 -- A marine chemist in La Jolla has won a $750,000 grant from NASA to develop an instrument that will look for signs of life on Mars, UCSD announced this week. Jeffrey Bada, a researcher at UCSD's Scripps Institution of Oceanography, is developing a detector to search for organic molecules in Martian soil. More

Computer Researchers Work on Auto Safety
Information Week, Jan. 11 -- Researchers at UC San Diego are developing multimodal computer vision techniques that could be used for surveillance and driver safety. UCSD professor Mohan Trivedi said the technology uses multiple viewpoints and technologies for interpretation of human movements and activities. Trivedi, who teaches electrical and computer engineering at UCSD's Jacobs School of Engineering, said the system reflected as well as emitted energies. More
DLA Piper Partners with UCSD on MBA Scholarship
San Diego Daily Transcript, Jan. 11 -- The law firm DLA Piper has partnered with UC San Diego's Rady School of Management to offer an MBA scholarship for fall 2007. The DLA Piper-Athena Scholarship is designed to expand access to graduate management education for individuals engaged in building San Diego's science- and technology-driven business sectors. One individual will receive full funding to attend the Rady School's FlexMBA program for fall 2007. More
