9 – Researchers at UCSD
and 39 other sites across the country have canceled the national
Women’s Health Initiative study of hormone replacement drugs
after discovering the drugs can cause more harm than they prevent.
Principal investigator of the UCSD
portion of the study, associate professor of family and
preventative medicine Robert
Langer cautioned women not to interpret these results
to mean all estrogen/progestin combinations are bad.
