scientists have developed a gene therapy that halts heart failure
in hamsters. If the results are borne out in further experiments,
now underway at UCSD, initial tests in people could begin
in 12 to 18 months. Kenneth Chien, director of the UCSD
Institute of Molecular Medicine, is the senior author of the study
published by the journal Nature Medicine.
