S.D. hospital rates up 19% since 1997
San Diego Union Tribune, July 31 – Driven by a changing marketplace that has given hospitals greater leverage with health plans and less oversight by managed care, costs again are spiking sharply. The San Diego daily hospital rate rose 19 percent since 1997. In five years, the number of admissions has risen 16 percent at the UCSD Medical Center’s two hospitals).
