Global Warming Signed, Sealed and Delivered
Los Angeles Times
, Opinion, July 24 -- Since the 1950s, scientists have understood that greenhouse gases produced by burning fossil fuels could have serious effects on Earth's climate. When the 1980s proved to be the hottest decade on record, and as predictions of climate models started to come true, scientists increasingly saw global warming as cause for concern. Saudi Arabia's Oil a Huge Question
The Atlanta Journal-Constitution
, July 21-- From the Saudi Arabian sands pour more than 9 million barrels of crude oil each day. For three decades, it has been Saudi Arabian oil that poured into the market to dampen rapidly rising prices and Saudi cutbacks that pushed prices back up when they were abnormally low. Not anymore. If the price of oil is going up no matter what, then slowing the pump may be a shrewd move, said economist James Hamilton of UCSD. More

3 Hospitals South of I-8
Could Fail, Report Says
San Diego Union-Tribune
, July 25 -- At least 3 hospitals serving many poor and uninsured people south of I-8 are in danger of financial collapse. Few physician specialists will accept such patients. And the county lacks a system to coordinate their care. Those are three of 24 serious weaknesses in San Diego County's broken safety net that more than 900,000 Medi-Cal beneficiaries and uninsured residents depend on for medical care, according to a draft of a county-commissioned report released yesterday. All the Jim That's Fit to Print
Voice of San Diego
, July 25 -- It's not uncommon for local politicians to be shown grinning on the front pages of a community newspaper. But it's not everyday that the article is written by the politician's mother -- in a newspaper owned by the politician and published by his wife. Such is the case at the Mission Times Courier, a monthly community newspaper delivered free to lawns and driveways throughout the councilman's eastern San Diego district.
